SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST (SLP)

Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic is looking for a Full-Time Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our busy Therapy department, and to help us grow into a new hospital facility!

The Speech Language Pathologist assesses, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive, communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other related disorders.

General Job Duties:

  • Play an important part in helping our patient to recover and feel better about themselves by providing therapy to maximize speech, language, cognitive and swallowing abilities.

  • Communicate patient progress or problems to supervisor and other team members; assist with patient scheduling and post charges daily to patient records.

  • Document patient care in accordance with regulatory, licensing, payer and accrediting requirements.

  • Instruct patient's family or nursing staff in follow-through programs.

  • Maintain equipment and work area in a safe and clean condition.

  • Treat both in-patient and out-patient speech therapy patients.

  • Handle job responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Standards of Excellency, appropriate professional standard and applicable state/federal laws.

Additional Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for administration and direct application of Speech Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a licensed physician.

  • Performs patient assessment, establishes plan of care, and prepares discharge plans.

  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatment and modifies as necessary.

  • Assesses educational and cultural needs of the patient, family, caregiver, or significant other and communicate accordingly to promote maximum benefit of care.

  • Coordinates with interdisciplinary team on patient needs, dietary requirements, treatment modifications, and progress.

  • Uses age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines to perform treatments and procedures that are routine for unit/clinic based on patient age.

  • Completes patient documentation in a thorough, timely, and efficient manner.

  • Assures execution of doctor’s orders

  • Evaluates and treats a variety of disorders, including but not limited to the following: Motor speech disorders, language disorders, voice disorders, cognitive deficits, and dysphagia

  • Develops and implements treatment plans that focus on functional and measurable outcomes and adheres to professional standards of practice

  • Oversees and participates in the maintenance of therapy records

  • Ensures availability of supplies and equipment

  • Maintains appropriate patient schedules, as per established guidelines

  • Provides documentation to maintain quality of the medical records, as it relates to reimbursement guidelines, accuracy of billing information, and facility requirements

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Speech Language Pathology which is accredited by Education Standards Board or whose practice meets ASHA certification.

  • Meet the education and experience requirements for Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology – 1 year

  • Current Speech Language Pathologist license in Kansas.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Must have CCC’s or be a CFY candidate.
