ELLINWOOD, Kan. — The Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic is evaluating plans to demolish its old hospital building, with the intention of converting the property into lots for potential residential or commercial use.

Hospital leadership said the decision comes after careful consideration of the extensive improvements required to bring the existing building up to current codes.
“After reviewing the scope of updates and repairs needed, we believe the most meaningful way to serve the Ellinwood community is to start fresh,” said Kile Magner, CEO of Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic. “By creating a blank slate, we can open the door to development that truly benefits our residents and strengthens the future of our town.”
The announcement follows news that the Center for Counseling has decided not to move forward with its previously planned project at the site. With that decision finalized, hospital leadership is preparing to move forward quickly while continuing to welcome feedback from the community.
“Until the decision is finalized, we remain open to hearing from community members if they believe there are alternative uses for the space that would provide even greater value,” Magner said.
Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic will share updates as the process develops and encourages community members to reach out with input.
