ELLINWOOD, Kan. – Parents of young children in the Ellinwood area will have an opportunity to receive free speech screenings for their kids as Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic hosts a special two-day event. Screenings will take place Monday, Oct. 6, and Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The screenings, designed for children ages 18 months through 12 years, will be conducted by Jessica Mulch, SLP, speech-language pathologist at Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic.
“Early detection of speech and language challenges can make a tremendous difference in a child’s long-term success in school and social settings,” Mulch said. “These screenings are quick, fun, and a great way for parents to learn whether their child might benefit from further evaluation or support.”
During the session, Mulch will assess speech clarity, language skills, and other age-appropriate communication milestones. If concerns are identified, families will receive guidance on the next steps for more comprehensive evaluation and intervention.
Kile Magner, CEO of Ellinwood Hospital and Clinic, said the program reflects the hospital’s commitment to community health and education.
“Strong communication skills are foundational for learning,” Magner said. “We are proud to provide this free service to help families give their children the best start possible.”
Appointments are encouraged but not required. Families can call 620-564-3771 to learn more or schedule a screening time.
